A ROOM WITH A VIEW | 8 SELECTED ACCOMMODATIONS IN SALZKAMMERGUT
A PROJECT FOR THE CULTURAL CAPITAL OF BAD ISCHL 2024
Regional Design Room Network
On our numerous trips through the Salzkammergut last year, we discovered contrasting worlds in a very small geographical space. This also gave rise to our idea of developing a slow hotel concept, which is about overnight stays with meaning and sensuality. Room with a view is the implementation of our wish to transform the inspiring landscape, regional craft techniques and existing hotels and guesthouses into sustainably but modernly designed Salzkammergut rooms.
The rooms with a view extend like a “patchwork carpet” over 8 places in the Salzkammergut. It starts in the Almtal, then it goes over the Traunsee to the Attersee, on to Bad Ischl, into the Gosau and the last stop is Bad Mitterndorf in the Auseerland.

In order to expand the project, we invited 3 international design teams to each design a typical Salzkammergut theme and an object for the guest rooms. The 5 themes and the associated design objects are: Board cut, found in ball con balustrades. We are reinterpreting this in a series of benches and armchairs. The traditional costumes and the matching fabrics become a bedhead that decorates each of the different beds. For the topic of nature in the Salzkammergut, we discovered the "Raschgras", from which typical regional slippers are woven and can be found in a ceiling light designed by KIM+HEEP. The wild animals in the forests of the Salzkammergut are hidden in the Hide+Seek mirror objects from Mischer*Traxler. And last but not least, the eponymous material, salt, in combination with rocks found in the region, should not be missing. The French team of architects from inFABric designed a drinking ritual made of glass and stone.
