BRIOCHE ZURICH | PAVILLON

IN COOPERATION WITH INFABRIC ARCHITECTS, COMPETITION 2022

Looking out into nature creates relaxation for the mind and the eye. The positioning of the "Brioche" pavilion with its green roof shell slanting towards the street and the flowing transition from urban space to nature creates this feeling.

The Brioche is a free-standing, translucent and opening pavilion, the floor plan of which unfolds from the circular shape in a spiral and spreads out into the surrounding architecture as an echo. A piece of "village" is created here that stands in contrast to the urban vitality and thus forms a significant haven of peace and meeting point on the edge of the new university district. The inspiration from the classic pavilion with a dome is turned around in this design and the dome becomes a shell that catches nature and is supported by filigree supports. The translucent architecture and homogeneous design of the floor covering blurs the transitions from the outside to the inside.

Brioche is a new meeting point and invites you to linger in the park.

Visitors arrive via the forecourt, which has a central tree and a circular arena that invites you to linger or to open-air concerts. This is also where drinks and food are served directly from the serving counter through an opening window front. The expansive canopy supported by wooden columns offers protection like a loggia, and you enter the guest room via the main entrance.

The serving counter and bar are arranged in an arched shape parallel to the southern facade. This creates a spacious open area for loose seating towards the park shell. The large northern glass surfaces between the columns can be opened completely, which reinforces the intersection of interior and nature. A smooth transition from the bar and serving counter to the preparation in the office is possible, thus facilitating good work processes. The warehouse, staff room and garbage room are also arranged in such a way that a functional and rapid workflow is guaranteed.

The visual appearance of the new meeting place is characterized by sustainable and authentic materials, mainly made of wood and glass. In order to make the building appear larger, more transparent and more connected to the surroundings, the entire floor area from the inside to the forecourt is made of a single cast and rammed concrete.
