HOUSE RADAU | HOLIDAY RESIDENCE 2023

IN COOPERATION MIT STUDIOCS

The house, which dates back to the 1960s and is located on the Radaubach, was used as a summer retreat for decades.

For year-round use, an extension was necessary, but demolition was out of the question. Both the new building and the partially covered slab, which serves as a connecting element, entrance area and courtyard, are 50 cm above ground level due to flood protection.

The new building with Yakisugi wood paneling takes up the position and height of the gable of the old house.

Its volume is generated by the roof pitch and the requirements of the room program. The new building with 75.2 m² of living space has sleeping areas and a spacious bathroom on two levels. The technical room disappears under the staircase, which was implemented using leftover construction wood, and a floor-to-ceiling storage area visually dissolves into the strictly vertically gridded wood paneling.

The intelligently placed window openings in the facade and roof protect against too many views and flood the interior generously with daylight.

The transparent connecting element is higher on the courtyard side and provides a view of the stream and mountain panorama.

The external facades of the 2 buildings visible in the interior elegantly dissolve into the connecting element. Due to financial circumstances, the construction is being implemented in 2 stages. The old building was prepared in terms of building services and building connections and adapted so that it has a high quality of stay with its spacious living area with open kitchen and wood stove. The individual buildings present themselves as independent dualisms and combine spatially to form a harmonious whole Design
